The Coffee Monster

90% of cafes simply have no plan of action for dealing with their used coffee ground, and most local councils have no plan for dealing with the uniqueness of coffee waste.  It's messy and heavy, and if it isn't treated correctly on a regular basis will begin to create a noxious, mouldy and fetid 'Coffee Monster'.

The Coffee Monster is the beginning of the natural breakdown process.  Coffee reverts back into methane and CO2 which are both responsible for the further depletion of the ozone layer through the Greenhouse Effect.

If you're anything like me, you'll either 'need' or 'love' that first cup of coffee in the morning.

Cafe Culture is growing worldwide.

That means even more people are drinking coffee, particularly in non-traditional markets in India and China.  Up to 2.5 billion cups of coffee are consumed globally each day.

That's a lot of mess to deal with.

In Australia we consume more than eleven million tonnes of coffee per year, this releases around 1.1 million tonnes of methane and CO2 into the atmosphere annually.

It's time to stop this practice.

Used coffee ground AND the rejected coffee beans have further uses: to add carbon to soil when used in agriculture; to add nutrient to plants when used in horticulture; bio-fuel can be extracted from coffee to become a renewable energy source; and to help repair and nourish our skin when used in skincare.

We know that this magical little entity is a major part of our lives, SOS repairs the loop when it comes to 'waste' coffee and reworks it into luxurious organic skincare.

We work with growers by addressing the 'less than perfect beans' that are rejected by roasters, we reclaim those blemished beans and roast them to extract the caffeinated energy to handcraft our soaps, scrubs and serums.

We work with cafes to collect their used coffee ground and rework it into value-added products which can be used to further generate an income for hospitality and cafe owners as well as generate employment and skills training for people in local communities.

We offer skills training, employment and self-employment to men who are in prison to give them the best possible start once they exit the system by helping to learn barbering, coffee making/barista training, motorbike repar and servicing, tattooist skills equipment and support.
